The 5 Spots for the Best Appetizers in Hong Kong I’m Never Gatekeeping
Hong Kong is the type of city where you can snatch Michelin-star dim sum before noon and fast food chicken by 3. But let’s talk about meals that deserve your attention too: the appetizers – these small plates you order but end up guarding with your life!
It’s easy to gatekeep these spots as we find them, but honestly, the queues are already long enough. So, from one foodie to another, we’re excited to share with you spots where Hong Kong’s best appetizers can be found.
Try them – before we eat them all!
How much do appetizers cost in Hong Kong? The cost of appetizers in Hong Kong starts at $10 per option. However, higher-end restaurants can drive up the cost to at least $400 — these are usually for appetizers included in executive set lunches. |

Located steps away from the iconic gaslamp-lit Duddell Street, A Lux is the perfect place to enjoy appetizers in an artistic ambiance. The palace is filled with impressionist art, soft lighting, and refined decor that really sets the mood.
One of their best offerings is their weekend brunch menu, which includes an unlimited appetizer platter. With these, guests are treated to a rotating selection of cold dishes, including smoked salmon roll, foie gras toast, and light salads.
Since it’s more of an upscale location, expect to spend at least $600 here per person. It’s definitely not the most budget-friendly option. But for unique, high-end selections of hot appetizers (e.g., baked escargot), this is a great stop.
If you want to save a bit, they do offer a 20% discount for reservations made via OpenRice. Slots fill fast, so if you want to dine in, keep your dates in mind at least a week in advance.
The service is thoughtful too, as we’re not expecting any less with this kind of venue. The dishes are introduced with care and at the perfect timing. They also attend to wine pairing suggestions to match your order.
Refillable food and offer discounts
“4-course brunch menu. The appetizer and the main course of ribeye were refillable, so it’s best to come on an empty stomach and eat more to get the most value out of it 😂. The appetizer was a platter with five different cold dishes. They also offer a free flow package, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, which is a must-have for brunch 🥂. Don’t forget to make a reservation on OpenRice, as they offer a 20% discount on the entire bill 💰”

For those who want to enjoy a refined dining experience, Quiero Más is a solid choice. Perched on the 20th floor of M88 in Central, this restaurant gives you awesome panoramic views of Victoria Harbour.
Their appetizer menu won our hearts with its consistently good flavours. Their Jamon Iberico Paletilla was thinly sliced and beautifully balanced by the soft tomato salsa bread, with just the right saltiness and sweetness to it.
For something a little more filling, we really loved their Gilda skewer as it offers a nice hit of umami: salmon, cod, anchovy, and pickles that give this a varied texture with the perfect briny kick.
Service-wise, we find their staff friendly and professional, with food arriving fast. They’re attentive and explain the options well, so guests can really mix and match their choices perfectly based on what’s available.
Unfortunately, they need a little bit of improvement when it comes to food consistency. Our team members who dined in during busy lunch hours noted that the appetizers were a little underseasoned.
On the good side, this seemed to be an exception rather than the rule.
Enjoyable wine and appetizers
“Had dinner with friends at Quiero Maś during Chinese New Year. The place is private and cozy. We enjoyed mostly the wine and appetizers. Would come back again to try different dishes.”

Tucked within PMQ in Central, Louise is a popular spot in the city, thanks to its Michelin-star designation. Plus, it offers two distinct dining experiences: a relaxed, chic experience with their downstairs terrace and a fine dining space upstairs.
We loved that their appetizer lineup is imaginative yet grounded in French tradition. One of the best we’ve had was their organic local beetroots with wasabi cream, toasted walnuts, and honey – the balance of earthiness and sweetness is perfect.
The grilled foie gras was another highlight. It delivered East-meets-West, with ingredients such as kabu, peanuts, gomashio, and green chili-kaffir lime.
Despite having upscale options, their prices aren’t actually that expensive, averaging from $288 to $468 per person only. Plus, the appetizers are well portioned for sharing, so the value for money really shines through.
We just hope that the tastes become a little more consistent regardless of the time of day. We did encounter a time when the foie gras had too much seasoning, and the wait time had been excessively long. Improvements here will really take things off.
Amazing appetizers
“Came here for brunch. Amazing appetizers; especially impressed w the foie gras terrine. Angel hair pasta w truffle and caviar. Frog legs. And, of course, the signature chicken w rice. Aside from the hiccups, amazing overall. Would definitely recommend!”

Friendly and attentive staff
“The dining experience is nice overall from appetizers to dessert, with such a comfy ambience. I’ve never eaten chicken that can be so nicely cooked in such a tender texture. Staff was great very attentive, very friendly Knowledgable with the menu, and totally suggested the rig he portion of food. However, super nice dishes, their signature dish, yellow roasted chicken and the smoked organic egg are amazing, the chicken rice is definitely tasty though, as they’ve mixed the rice with quite crispy chicken skin.”

La Petite Maison got our attention with its offering of Southern French and Mediterranean flavours. The place has this elegant French Riviera ambiance that makes it much more enjoyable to share small plates with close friends.
There are many options that caught our attention, but our favorite has to be the escargots de Bourgogne. It’s bathed in a rich garlic butter and parsley sauce, which is the perfect dip to mop up with their house bread.
The calamares frits have a nice chewy interior and crispy texture outside. For something with a little more kick and umami, the tuna tartare topped with egg yolk and Oscietra caviar is a winning starter.
Though there are many high-end selections, we do appreciate that the prices are still slightly on the more accessible side. For instance, they have a set lunch that includes 2 appetizers and 1 main dish.
If there’s one thing that surprised us, though, it’s that the place becomes lively during full-capacity evenings. We did love the energy, though we understand how that can be overwhelming for those who prefer quiet and intimate conversations.

Good and speedy service
“Lovely restaurant for sassy lunch with your girlfriends. The lunch menu was reasonable at 498. Cocktail tomartini is a must-have, so tasty sour with a touch of pepper. The welcome salad and bread is a nice touch to the start of the meal. Service was good and fast. The deep fried squid and tuna carpaccio 👍 grilled sagabuta pork and homemade rigatoni are highly recommended. Also to the French toast.”

With its convenient location in the World Trade Centre, Bochord is the ideal fine-dining spot that’s complete with many elements of haute French cuisine fusion. With classical bookcases and sweeping views of Victoria Harbour, you really can’t go wrong.
The creativity behind their appetizer is a true gem. We sampled multiple unique options, including their Japanese sea urchin tofu with crab meat, as well as the royal daurenki caviar with sous-vide scallop mousseline.
Each serving was carefully plated, with solid optional upgrades such as the bisque, which takes things up a notch. The add-ons aren’t that expensive too, starting at about $50 per option.
The service is a solid selling point as well, with staff introducing each dish upon serving and discreetly resetting tables between courses. They check in on guests as well, offering recommendations and alternatives to unavailable dishes.
Of course, perfection isn’t always possible. Our team members agree that while the good was generally well-executed, consistency dips during peak hours. We noted that some appetizers arrived lukewarm, which was a slight letdown from the experience.
Wonderful atmosphere and service
“Gorgeous! Wonderful atmosphere and service. Classic fine dining setting. The food were nice as well. From delicate appetizers to appealing closing desserts, we love them.”
