These 8 Best Chocolate Cake Shops in Hong Kong Deserve 5 Stars!

If there’s one thing Hong Kong knows how to do right (apart from the dim sum and skyline views, of course) – it’s dessert! And when it comes to chocolate cake, we take things pretty seriously.

Sadly, not every single stop is worth your money. Others are literally cheap for a reason, while others have insanely high costs and even more insanely disappointing flavours.

If you want to get local insights on which stops are actually worth queuing up for, we’re right here. Our team dug through Causeway Bay to Tsim Sha Tsui to find the city’s most mouthwatering chocolate cakes and more.

1. Le Dessert

Address: Fortune Factory Building Block A, BLOCK A, A4, 15/F, 40 Lee Chung St, Chai Wan

Contact Details: +852 9262 1575

Price: $$$

When it comes to chocolate cakes, Le Dessert’s chocolate hazelnut charlotte is in a league of its own. I loved how silky the chocolate mousse is, pairing perfectly with a distinctly crispy praline base that adds the perfect level of crunch.

The light hazelnut cream was full of texture, which I can say for the rest of the cake. When I got one for a party, the cake managed to hold up beautifully without being soggy. I think it’s really a good choice for lengthy events.

Pro tip: I recommend reaching out at least a week in advance, as the cake takes time to be made. The price ranges from $450 to $500 too, depending on the size, so a little bit of budgeting ahead will really help.

2. Sweet Secrets

Sweet Secrets’ chocolate cake is the perfect splurge for those who really love a rich, chocolatey flavor. It’s rich, moist, and has a perfectly balanced deep cocoa flavor that delivers depth without being overly sweet.

What’s even more impressive is that it’s vegan, gluten-free, eggless, and dairy-free. I know you can be a little skeptical about the flavor, but trust me – you wouldn’t be able to tell right off the box.

Ordering was super easy too – I reached out via WhatsApp and received replies within minutes. The cake arrived within the one-hour window too, so there’s little waiting time. But of course, final times depend on your location and additional requests.

3. Butterfly Patisserie

Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM

For those on the hunt for top-quality chocolate cake, Butterfly Patisserie in the Rosewood Hotel should be in your books. The layers of their chocolate chiffon are intense and moist, topped with a glossy ganache that screams luxury.

I like ordering one too, especially as gifts. Their packaging is really nice – thanks to the magnetic-closing boxes, which give it a nice, modern look. It’s easy for pick-up and delivery too, so there’s no hassle.

At over $300 per cake, it’s definitely a splurge for non-special occasions. Though in the bigger picture, it’s still slightly cheaper than most options of the same class. Plus, who doesn’t want to enjoy an elegant treat?

4. Lady M Cake Boutique

Address: Harbour City, Shop OT215K, 2/F, Ocean Terminal, 3-27 Canton Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui

Operating Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM, Friday – Saturday: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Lady M Cake Boutique has a lot of chocolate-based dessert options that I’m sure you’ll love. One of their famous options includes their dark chocolate mille crepes, where you can literally taste the smooth and delicious bitterness of the dark cocoa.

You’ll also spot their chocolate squares cake, which always comes out looking picture-perfect. The sweetness is just right, so you can indulge in a few bites without feeling overpowered by flavours.

Located inside Harbour City, the venue is more of a boutique counter than a cafe – don’t expect tons of seating, especially during busy times! But, for what it’s worth, the food alone is definitely worth the trip and wait.

5. Butter

Address: SoHo, 34B Staunton St, Central

Contact Details: +852 2810 0660

Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Price: $$$

The triple chocolate cake at Butter isn’t something you can miss. With its fudgy texture and dense chocolate sponge, it’s no wonder that many locals call it the best chocolate cake in town.

I first grabbed a slice at their Soho shop for about $100. It’s definitely a hefty price tag to pay for cake, but there are things that make it worth the price: beautifully packaged in a box that feels like a gift, and ingredients that melt just right.

The store’s vibe is really upbeat, and it’s just fun seeing the staff be cheerful and interactive with customers. Even on busy days, they work fast, so there’s little to no wait time while you’re there.

6. Frenchie Toquee HK

One thing I love about Frenchie Toquee is their royal chocolate cake. It has the level of consistency that I truly love – the base is crunchy and the layers of chocolate mousse have that perfect level of silkiness to it.

The presentation is stunning too – my order arrived flawless, with a glossy finish that makes the cake look elegant. Thankfully, the taste lives up to the looks!

What makes the whole experience even better is their service. Apart from buying in-store, you can also place an order via WhatsApp. They respond fast and deliver cakes right on time.

If you need a cake for a special occasion, though, make sure to reach out a week in advance.

7. Vission Bakery

Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 9:00 PM, Saturday – Sunday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Vision Bakery is one of those places that really blew me away when it comes to good-tasting cake. Their twice-baked chocolate cake is the star, famous for its intensely rich and moist flavor.

The depth of the cocoa is really there, and I like that it’s not cloying despite the boldness of the taste. Plus, the prices won’t break the bank – you can only expect to spend about $50 to $100 per person here.

If you’re not into mint, their mint chocolate cake might just convert you. The mint is well, pretty sharp, but not enough to overpower the chocolate. It has the perfect luxurious taste that’s honestly super addictive!

8. Patisserie Tony Wong

Website: http://www.patisserietonywong.com/

Address: B3出口, 地鐵站, 63 Fuk Lo Tsun Road, 65 Fuk Lo Tsun Rd, Kowloon City

Contact Details: +852 2382 6639

Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM

Price: $$

If you want to splurge on your next chocolatey trip, Tony Wong’s hazelnut chocolate crunchy cake has all the textures you need. The praline layers are perfectly crunchy, matching well with the chocolate mousse and its rich aroma.

For the perfect treat, though, I recommend getting their chocolate rose cake. This one is sculpted to look like a blooming rose, so you’re paying for the visuals too (could it be a perfect Valentine treat as well?)

To our friends who are watching their sugar intake, there’s the keto caramel chocolate konjac cake. At just $65, it’s a light option to enjoy something sweet without the guilt. And yes, it tastes amazing!
