The 5 Best Hardware Stores in Hong Kong to Get Everything for Your Next Home Project

Product Variety: I chose stores that carry a wide range of items, from small hand tools and plumbing parts to power tools and building materials.

Quality and Authentic Brands: I focused on shops that sell reliable, well-known brands and materials that professionals actually trust on the job.

Customer Experience: Stores with approachable staff and tidy layouts made a strong impression. It helps when you can ask for advice and actually walk away with the right information.

Local Reputation: I gave preference to stores that have been around for years and are popular with both contractors and homeowners.

Convenience: I also favored stores that are easy to get around in or located near public transportation.

Sometimes home repairs can catch you off guard. Even a loose shelf or a dripping faucet can become a minor hassle if you don’t have the right tools.

In a city where many people live in high-rise apartments with limited space, it’s easy to feel unprepared for these everyday fixes. Having a reliable hardware store nearby makes tackling DIY projects much easier.

To help with that, I looked into dependable options and gathered the best hardware stores in Hong Kong that locals trust for tools, housewares, and building materials.

Tai Tsui Hardware Limited has been around since the 1960s, and you can tell they’ve built their reputation on experience rather than flash.

The store deals in a wide range of stainless steel rigging, marine hardware, industrial fasteners, and building supplies. Looking at their supplies, I find them more geared toward professionals.

The product mix is broad enough that contractors, boat owners, and factory teams can probably find most of what they need in one place.

What stood out to me is how knowledgeable their staff is. They don’t just hand you whatever’s on the shelf. They actually ask questions to make sure you’re getting the right type or grade of material.

That kind of technical support is useful, especially when dealing with specific stainless steel grades like 304 or 316.

Their pricing and stock approach also seem practical; they balance quality and cost instead of pushing the most expensive option.

If there’s one drawback, it’s their size. Tai Tsui isn’t a large chain, so their stock levels can vary. It’s worth checking ahead if you’re after something more specialized or in bulk.

Pros

  • Broad and specialized product mix
  • Deep technical & professional sales support
  • Long operating history
  • Quality-oriented and customer-first philosophy
  • Niche / industrial focus
  • One-stop shop potential
  • Urban / accessible location

Cons

  • Small scale

Friendly, professional service

“A long-established shop specializing in stainless steel appliances, Da Zhao Hardware is always my first choice when I need to buy hardware. Traditional hardware shops are usually run by an older owner, and the staff are often rude and uneducated. But this shop, like a family business, must have been inherited by a wealthy family. The owner is young and polite, and even the staff, despite their age, are polite and patient with their sales. With prices soaring in Hong Kong, starting a business is incredibly challenging. Even with a father’s influence, passing on the legacy isn’t easy. It’s rare to find an owner so passionate about his business. I will definitely continue to support him.”

Friendly staff, reasonable prices

“The staff and owner were super nice. They weren’t annoying even when I asked more questions. The prices were reasonable, and the shopping experience was surprisingly good. I’ll definitely be buying screws there from now on.

(I’ve been to two other screw stores nearby, and the large photo is the best comparison.)”

Maker Soul is a newer face in Hong Kong’s hardware scene, but they’ve adapted quickly to how people shop today.

They sell both online and in-store, which gives customers flexibility. I find this really good since it helps customers compare products before buying or going to the store.

Their catalog covers everything from power tools and building materials to accessories and safety gear. It’s convenient for anyone who wants to pick up multiple items at once instead of visiting different suppliers.

Another thing I like about Maker Soul is how active they are online. They actually use social media to share product details, quick updates, and behind-the-scenes looks, which keeps them connected with their audience.

It’s a refreshing contrast to older hardware shops that barely have an online presence.

The team itself is quite small, around a dozen staff, but they seem organized and responsive.

If there’s one thing to note, it’s that Maker Soul is still a young player in the industry. Founded in 2021, they’re still in the process of building their reputation.

Pros

  • Multi-channel retail + wholesale
  • Wide product range
  • Modern/social media savvy
  • Relatively new, agile setup
  • Strong local presence in Hong Kong

Cons

  • Younger company

Knowledgeable and patient staff

“I searched online and met a great craftsman. It is a new hardware store with an online store!!!! I saw that they had METALWARE electronic locks, so I compared them and asked. It turned out that the store had DISPLAY, which I tried, and it was really good. The clerk was very patient and introduced the electronic lock! Kuaishou checked my door information, and helped me bury the installation date in my book. Yes! The attitude of the customer service and clerk was very good. I am very patient in answering questions and will help you again :)”

Unique hardware store

“I saw the sign from afar, and the entrance was at the staircase of the pharmacy and jewelry store. It gave me a sense of exploration, as if I were entering the world of a pre-war tenement building. The store is equipped with large curved corner glass, from which I can overlook the bustling Sham Shui Po from an inward angle. The curved corner tenement building is also the only one left in Hong Kong, and it is worth a visit to experience it.”

3. Kanamono Hardware Store

The Kanamono Hardware Store takes a very different approach from the typical hardware shop.

The space is small, less than 9 square meters, yet every corner has a clear purpose. The shelves hold well-made tools and metalware, many of which come from Japan.

What impressed me is how curated everything feels. Each piece, from brass fittings to woodworking tools, seems chosen with design in mind.

They even produce their own metalware under the KANAMONO 金社 brand, which gives the store a local touch that’s rare to see.

The shop’s presentation stands out too. It’s clean, minimalist, and visually thought-out. Even their Instagram reflects the same aesthetic, showing they care about the story behind what they sell as much as the product itself.

If there’s one limitation, it’s that their niche focus naturally narrows their audience. Kanamonon caters more to design enthusiasts and people who appreciate craftsmanship than those looking for heavy-duty or industrial tools.

Pros

  • Curated & design-forward selection
  • Own brand + unique local production
  • Compact and characterful space
  • Strong visual identity & lifestyle positioning
  • Convenient local location
  • Reasonable opening hours

Cons

  • Niche appeal may limit market

Cozy, well-curated store

“Cosy and beautiful store tugged in the corner of the quiet streets. One may find useful treasures and tools that are sourced from mostly Japan. Good and friendly shopping experience. I asked plenty of questions about the items I saw in the store and was attended to with kindness and patience.”

Fascinating shop

“It’s like opening a treasure box, we could have spent a whole day to dive into the design and craftsmanship of each single item in the shop, all are the live demonstration of excellent design for what each tool means to be in our life…to inspire and to elevate our quality of living.  Worth spending of time and money.”

Kwok Fung Metal Works is one of those hardware suppliers that seems to have everything under one roof.

Their product range is extensive. You’ll find screws, stainless steel materials, safety gear, and adhesives. They also carry plumbing parts, electrical tools, welding and cutting tools, and even painting supplies.

From what I can tell, it’s where many general contractors and small repair teams go when they need a range of items for different projects.

What makes them convenient is how efficiently they handle orders. They promise quick delivery across Hong Kong. This is a big plus for anyone who needs supplies on short notice.

Their website is surprisingly accessible, supporting both English and Traditional Chinese with prices in multiple currencies. This makes it easier for buyers outside Hong Kong or working with international clients to place orders.

The store itself is in Tai Kok Tsui, a convenient location for city customers. It’s packed with inventory, which shows how much variety they carry.

However, I find the store a bit tight. It gets especially crowded on weekday mornings and late afternoons, which makes moving around tricky.

Pros

  • Very wide product range
  • Fast local order fulfillment
  • Delivery service
  • Multi-lingual / multiple currency support
  • One-stop hardware & building materials shop
  • Local-rooted business

Cons

  • Shop space feels a bit cramped

Reliable and well-stocked shop

“I can find parts that are not available in Mong Kok. I can find them here immediately by asking the master. The price is also very competitive. This old shop is really powerful.”

Excellent products at great prices

“The prices and products are first-rate.”

Kinetic Hardware Limited is a solid stop for anyone planning a renovation or updating their home interiors.

Their selection focuses on premium hardware and built-in solutions. Items include luxury kitchen accessories, drawer systems, hinges, and handles.

It’s convenient for homeowners and contractors who want to upgrade their spaces with reliable, long-lasting products.

As an authorized dealer for brands like Hettich, Kesseboehmer, and Agoform, Kinetic Hardware ensures that its products are genuine and durable. This reliability is especially important for fixtures that see daily use.

I also like that the store layout is designed so you can see the details and quality of the hardware up close, which makes comparing options easier.

I had a chance to talk with someone at the store who was there for her renovation project. She mentioned that the staff were very helpful in guiding her to choose the right hardware for her cabinets, drawers, and other fixtures.

One drawback is that their focus on premium brands can mean higher prices compared to generic alternatives, so it might feel expensive for those on a tighter budget.

Pros

  • Wide range of products
  • For renovations and home interior
  • Authorized dealer for reputable brands
  • Convenient location
  • Established presence

Cons

  • Premium pricing

Comprehensive hardware store

“Incredible hardware store! For anyone refurbishing a kitchen, they have a very complete showroom upstairs in the adjacent building for cabinet interior solutions.”

Friendly and resourceful staff

“Very helpful, friendly and resourceful.

I could not find a replacement for a broken glass-door handle but they came up with an idea and helped me fix the problem.

Great customer service!”
