Pros

  • Member of the Hong Kong Society of Notaries
  • Specialises solely on notarial services
  • Considerably quick turnaround time

Cons

  • Minor complaints about their buggy website

First off our list is Selwyn Chan Notary Public, a firm that’s said to be highly adept in providing notarial services in Hong Kong.

To begin with, let’s clarify that a notary public’s job is to attest and certify deeds and other papers that can be used worldwide.

Their signature and official seal make them acceptable to court or other public authorities in the country where they are to be used as proof of the matter witnessed by them.

A lot of, if not most, law firms in Hong Kong have public notaries; however, this one in particular specialises solely on notarisation.

We found that to be interesting, and we’re glad we came across their services. They’re very thorough and we can affirm that they’re dependable when it comes to notarising documents.

Their notarisation can take as quick as 1 day, with or without a notarial certificate. Alongside that, they also provide an apostille and legalisation, both of which can take 2 to 7 days.

From what we’ve seen, they are headed by competent and clever professionals that pay attention and focus on helping clients understand and appreciate complex legal principles in relatable ways.

Setting up an appointment with them isn’t such a hassle at all, and they’re quick in responding to queries via different platforms.

Pros

  • Multilingual lawyers and supporting staff
  • Highly accessible office in China Insurance Group Building

Cons

  • Minor complaints about their rates

Spearheaded by Stephen Chow and Natalia Cheung, this firm looks to be one of Hong Kong’s leading institutions in public notary and other legal concerns, and we can see just why.

Both the founders are notable lawyers who are Notaries Public appointed by the Hong Kong High Court. In addition, Stephen Chow is a China Appointed Attesting Officer.

The firm has had over five decades of experience in the legal field, providing an extensive array of legal services for both businesses and individuals not just in Hong Kong but globally as well.

Their team comprises four lawyers backed by a roster of supporting staff, and they’re all well-versed in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Because of their multilingual nature, we’re assured that communication between clients and lawyers will be efficient and effective.

We also like how they’re ready to answer questions through different channels of communication, so we can easily reach them in case something urgent comes up that requires their attention.

Locationwise, their office in China Insurance Group Building is pretty accessible, and there are parking spaces nearby as well.

Their specialisations vary widely, from corporate law to notary public, apostille, and consulate legalisation.

Overall, we like how they approach cases – by being direct and providing sound and practical legal advice.

Pros

  • Law Society Pro-Bono Award Winners (2014-2021)
  • Supporting law firm of HKGALA
  • Supporting organisation of Equal Love Hong Kong

Cons

  • Minor complaints about their rates

Hugill and Ip is an independent law firm in Hong Kong that provides expert legal advice for different areas of practice, from corporate to individual cases.

Of course, they cover notarial services, as well as legalisation of documents to support businesses and individuals.

After notarisation, they can also provide an apostille, which may sometimes be required alongside a notarised document.

Aside from being highly qualified in the high courts and cracking on cases all day, we think it’s also great to see some law firms that are active in community work and taking on social responsibility.

They’ve received numerous awards and recognitions both globally and locally for their participation in civic programs.

We’re also impressed at how they’ve organised a lot of events and activities that are strongly anchored in social responsibility, like the #foodwill Campaign with Feeding Hong Kong and a lot more.

Our favourite thing about Hugill and Ip Solicitors is their emphasis on diversity and inclusion and being committed to holding themselves accountable for fulfilling civic duties.

We definitely like how everyone at the firm remains very professional and welcoming of their clients.

Plus, handling legality can be overwhelming, and their attitude in the firm helps there. It takes away that initial feeling of intimidation.

Pros

  • Highly experienced lawyer and solicitors
  • Multilingual staff
  • Fast service in-office
  • Quick response rate via landline, mobile, and email

Cons

  • Website is quite plain and lacks relevant information

Jal N Karbhari and Co. Solicitors and Notaries is a law firm that provides aid across a number of practice areas and specialises in criminal and civil law as well as immigration and conveyancing.

It was established in 1999, and since then, they’ve been recognised for excellence in the range of legal work they offer for clients.

The firm’s founder, Mr Karbhari, has been in practice for over 40 years and continues to do work in Hong Kong until today, where  he has a team of solicitors together with him.

Their staff are well-versed in major languages, such as English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, making communication between clients less challenging.

Plus everyone at the firm was so attentive and the service was fast. Getting a notary took less than an hour, even though there were quite a number of people coming in.

Their office can be found in Cheung Lee Commercial Building, and parking is also accessible. However, it can get difficult around the area during rush hour.

To our slight dismay, there isn’t much to find on their website, which can be a bummer nowadays, but they’re pretty decent with their response rate when you contact them through landline.

Other than that, they also reply pretty quickly via email, so it’s safe to say we don’t have an issue at all when it comes to communicating with them.

Pros

  • Easily accessible office
  • Provides legal services in a lot of different areas
  • Fast service in-office

Cons

  • Minor complaints about their response rates online

Established in 1964, K.B. Chau and Co. Solicitors and Notaries is probably one of the oldest notary publics that we know of in Hong Kong.

The firm’s notary public is Ronald K. F. Poon, and he handles the preparation, attestation, and authentication of legal documents for use abroad.

We find his services and attentiveness to his clients to be very reassuring. He’s a highly capable lawyer that’s definitely had ample experience in his field of work.

In addition, we do think that they have a very competent team of lawyers, and they’ve been handling a multitude of legal areas for many years.

Although not everyone in their office is able to speak in English, a majority of them can do so, so communication isn’t too worrisome at all.

We’d say their response rate online is pretty decent, but it could be improved, especially since it could be urgent in nature.

Apart from that, they’re a dependable law firm with really good staff and an even more capable notary public.

They have a clean, spacious office that can be found at the United Centre. Getting there is no problem at all, but it’d be best to come with an appointment beforehand to avoid waiting too long.
