The 5 Best Orthopaedic Specialists in Hong Kong to Keep You Moving Again
Let’s be honest. Achy knees, joint pain, and injuries can really ruin your day (possibly your life if left untreated). You wince every time you bend or walk up the stairs, feeling like your body is working against you.
But here’s another truth: finding a good orthopaedic specialist is another challenge. So many options, but with little guidance.
To help you with that, our team did the hard work for you. We’ve searched high and low for the best orthopaedic specialists in Hong Kong.
If you’re suffering from sports injuries or chronic conditions, here are the orthopaedic specialists who came on top based on our research and conversation with Hong Kong locals!
1. Dr. LIU King Lok

Dr. Liu King Lok topped our list because of his impressive credentials. He’s a specialist in orthopaedics and traumatology, making him a go-to expert for both complex injuries and routine joint or bone concerns.
Another impressive thing about Dr. Liu is his experience. He worked in various tertiary referral centres and also provided voluntary services to rural China. That alone speaks a lot about his hands-on expertise and commitment.
It’s also worth mentioning that Dr. Liu heads the Paediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis Clinic. It’s a clinic focused on two things – scoliosis and paediatric orthopaedics. So, if you’re looking for a specialist in orthopaedics for kids, Dr. Liu is a great choice.
And not only that, he works with a team composed of registered physiotherapists. That gives us the confidence that they can really help patients receive comprehensive care that has both treatment and rehabilitation for faster recovery.
We also appreciate Dr. Liu’s personable approach. He offered helpful advice to parents and reassured them before surgeries. Patients also note that he only advises doing what’s necessary, not wasting money or time.
The only downside is that he’s more focused on scoliosis and paediatric orthopaedics.
Good experience
“Very good experience. Dr Liu is focused on the patients needs and priorities, he advises to do only what is necessary to fulfill them. I would definitely recommend him. The English level for him and his staff is mother-tongue equivalent.”

Prohealth Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy Centre was one of the most recommended clinics by locals when we were looking for great orthopaedic clinics in Hong Kong. It’s just located in Central, so it’s easy to access, whether you’re commuting from home or work.
While looking into them, they also ticked the box when it comes to experience. They’ve been helping clients since 2000, and we believe they’ve already dealt with lots of orthopaedic cases.
Service-wise, we think that they offer a comprehensive range of physiotherapy and rehab services. From sports injury management to scoliosis and frozen shoulder, almost every orthopaedic need is covered.
We’re also glad they use advanced technology for shockwave therapy, performance assessment, and diagnostic ultrasound. That helps provide faster and more effective treatment or recovery.
They’re also insurance-friendly – good news if you’re eyeing to use your insurance. They accept AXA, April, and Cigna Healthcare.
The only disadvantage is that they’re quite in demand. We recommend using their online booking system to secure an immediate appointment.
Patient and kind therapists
“I injured my shoulder a few months back and went through a frustrating journey seeing different GPs and physios, each giving me conflicting diagnoses. Then I met Meredith. She changed everything. Meredith was so patient and kind, and took the time to really understand my situation. Her treatment was effective and I was finally on the right path to recovery. I’d recommend her to anyone who needs a physio who genuinely cares and delivers results!”

If you’re looking for a clinic using traditional Chinese medicine, then Total Health is the place to go. They use traditional Chinese medicine together with physiotherapy and other approaches in treating different bone and joint issues.
One thing we like about this team is that they cater to a wide range of orthopaedic issues. They treat knee pain, sports-related injuries, injured hips, and a lot more.
It’s also reassuring to know that they offer various approaches to treating bone and joint conditions. For instance, they offer hand therapy, physiotherapy, and chiropractic services. This allows patients to receive personalised care under one roof.
We also find their team very diverse and strong. They have physiotherapists, chiropractors, and even coaches and personal trainers. With that, we think that they can provide a well-rounded approach to recovery and rehabilitation that patients need.
Their staff and therapists are also the type of people you’ll feel comfortable with. They really take their time to listen and explain treatments clearly, which makes patients feel supported throughout the recovery process.
If there’s one thing to take note of, it’s that they have occasional late appointment cancellations.
Professional and nice therapist
“I met Moriah for my knee injury. She did acupuncture to release the pain, after two times seeing her, and following her advices, my knee pain was released. She is professional and nice. I highly recommend her”

Tong Wai Chung caught our attention because of its clean and welcoming space. They have a nice front desk, and the treatment room is comfortable. The atmosphere is far from intimidating, unlike other orthopaedic clinics in Hong Kong.
Apart from that, we’re also impressed with Dr. Christopher Tong’s solid background in orthopaedic and sports medicine.
The fact that he graduated in medicine from the University of Edinburgh and underwent orthopaedic training in Hong Kong shows that he has a strong foundation and international exposure.
The range of conditions he treats is also impressive, especially since he’s a one-man clinic. It includes ankle and foot fractures, shoulder impingement, and osteoarthritis.
We also love that he’s super honest with the procedures he can and cannot entertain. This makes sure that patients receive only appropriate treatments and are clearly informed about their options before proceeding.
Dr. Tong is also friendly and very positive, which helps patients feel at ease, especially for serious cases that need surgery.
However, since it’s a one-man clinic, expect that there may be waiting times.
Positive and friendly
“Dr. Tong operated my right knee (torn meniscus) in November 2019. I didn’t have any problem since. Now, in 2023, my left knee also had the same meniscus problem and I directly went to see Dr. Tong. Very positive and friendly attitude, explains all the details to you, and you feel that he is the one to go for all orthopedic issues.”

Orthopaedia Hong Kong is a more specialised orthopaedic clinic focused on treating flat head, lower limb issues, and scoliosis.
To be honest, they offer very limited services compared to other clinics. But for us, it’s not necessarily a bad thing since this narrow focus allows them to deliver targeted care and deeper expertise.
That said, if you’re suffering from sports-related injuries or need rehabilitation, you’ll have to look for help elsewhere.
The clinic is especially trusted by Hong Kong parents we talked to. A parent thanked the clinic for treating their twins’ flat heads using the helmet method.
A couple more parents shared that the helmet therapy of Orthopaedia Hong Kong is very effective, despite their hesitations from the beginning.
Apart from that, we appreciate how they value the time and effort of their patients. Their appointments are always on time and efficient. This is a huge plus, especially for busy patients and moms with kids.
Great experience
“Had a great experience at Orthopaedia, we did the initial complimentary scan with them.
Due to timing, we started the helmet therapy in the States and Orthopaedia were able to help continue treatment after in Hong Kong. Their recommendation matched what the USA orthotist said.
We started at 6 months and were able to finish by 10 months due to a good response to the helmet adjustments.
Our appointments were always efficient and on time.”
