Where is Cheung Sha Beach?
Cheung Sha Beach is located in the southern part of Lantau Island. The beach is divided into two parts by a headland – Lower Cheung Sha Beach and Upper Cheung Sha Beach.
Ironically, the lower beach is on the northern part of the island, while the upper beach is on the southern part.
What is the main road in Cheung Sha Beach?
South Lantau Road is the main road to wander in when you visit Cheung Sha Beach. It’s a major thoroughfare to Cheung Sha and other villages on the north and south coasts of Lantau Island, so accessing various natural attractions using this road is easy.
How to get to Cheung Sha Beach?
Closest pier: From Central Station, go to the exit and take the Central Pier Ferry Number 6 leading to Mui Wo. When you get off at Mui Wo Ferry Pier, take Bus 1, 2, or 4.
Get off at the Cheung Sha Ha Tsuen bus stop if you’re going to Lower Cheung Sha Beach or the Cheung Sha Beach bus stop if you’re going to Upper Cheung Sha Beach.

Upper Cheung Sha Beach is set on the southern side of the island. It’s bigger and less crowded than Lower Cheung Sha Beach, so it’s a great choice if you want a quiet place to unwind or swim on a warm summer day.
The water here might not be as turquoise as other beaches because of the black rock sediments in the area, but it’s still super clean and clear. Plus, there are public facilities around, such as barbecue pits and showers.
Just note that there are no commercial stores on this beach, so you’ll have to take the trail hidden behind the headland to buy food or supplies in Lower Cheung Sha Beach.

Lower Cheung Sha Beach is the best place to try out a range of exciting water sports and recreation. This part of the beach is packed with sites offering equipment and lessons for surfing, wakeboarding, and kayaking, so even total beginners can find something to enjoy here.
If you’re lucky, you might even meet and snag a pic of Lantau’s famous water buffaloes chilling by the creek running into the sea.
