Lamma Island is one of Hong Kong’s dream island destinations. It’s the perfect escape if you wish to enjoy the crisp salt air and lazy days under swaying palm trees.

Where is Lamma Island?
Lamma Island is set in the southwest of Hong Kong Island. Its northern part is the Yung Shue Wan Village while its eastern part is the Sok Kwu Wan Village. This island is mostly accessible via ferry rides or private boats.
What is the main street on Lamma Island?
Yung Shue Wan Main Street is the main and busiest street on Lamma Island. The alleys here are packed with seafood restaurants, bars, and cafes. As you wander down the street, you can also find several shops and stalls selling all sorts of souvenirs and trinkets.
How to get to Lamma Island?
Closest pier: From Central Station, take the exit and head to Central Ferry Pier 4. There are two piers on Lamma Island – Yung Shue Wan Pier and Sok Kwu Wan Pier. If you wish to skip the long queues and get away from the crowds, Sok Kwu Wan Pier is a better option.

Find your zen at Lo So Shing Beach

Lo So Shing Beach is nestled behind a set of tree-lined stairs on the western side of Lamma Island. This long stretch of white sand beach is particularly less crowded because it’s quite far from Lamma Island’s piers.
It’s only accessible from Lamma Island Family Walk, so it’s a nice beach to visit if you wish to spend a quiet afternoon by the sea. The beach has a small promenade with an outdoor area where you can bask under the sun.
The beach is also equipped with changing rooms, showers, and toilets. There are also a few kiosks selling light refreshments here.

Hiking distance: 5 kilometers (3.1 miles)
Elevation: 110 meters (361 feet)

This family-friendly trail starts from Sok Kwu Wan Pier and ends at Yung Shue Wan Pier. It is paved, flat, and complete with directional signage, so it can be completed in one hour.
As you walk along the trail, you will see many rustic local houses, picturesque beaches, and local wildlife.
If you wish to rest a bit, spend some time at Hung Shing Yeh Beach or Lo So Shing Beach. These two beaches have facilities and some bars and cafes.

Location: Sok Kwu Wan, Lamma Island
Hiking distance: 5.3 kilometers (3.3 miles)
Elevation: 250 meters (820 feet)
If you want to try a more challenging hike, go for Ling Kok Shan Trail. The climb to the summit is steep and includes more than 1,000 stair steps, so your knees will surely get a workout.
There are rest stops along the way, so you can still rest for a bit. Just don’t forget to pack sunscreen and water, as there’s very little shade and trees along the trail.
You can complete this loop hike in two hours if you start from Mo Tat Wan and finish at the Sok Kwu Wan Pier. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with the stunning coastal views of Lamma Island and a range of interesting rock formations.
Throw a beach party at Lamma Power Station Beach

Lamma Power Station Beach sits right next to the city’s coal and gas-fired power station, but don’t let that put you off. This beautiful beach is a hotspot for many tourists because of its pristine waters and accessibility.
Plus, you can find a few restaurants and bars here. It’s also a nice spot for beach volleyball and bonfires, so bring your friends along!
And guess what? It’s one of the few beaches on Lamma Island where you can bring your furry buddies.

And don’t worry. This restaurant provides free transportation for customers coming from Hong Kong Island and Tsim Sha Tsui. So, if you’re craving fresh seafood munchies, just contact them, and they’ll send a rainbow-painted ferry for you.
