Location: West of Hong Kong Island
Sunset Peak is one of Hong Kong’s highest summits, so if you’re an experienced hiker looking for a challenging hike, this one’s perfect for you. It’s considered a moderately challenging trail because of the steep incline, so you’ll have trouble finishing this hike if you have a bad knee.
Just like its name suggests, it’s the best spot to watch the spectacular sunset on Lantau Island. Once you reach its peak, you’ll be welcomed by the gorgeous vistas of Lantau Peak and the white sandy beaches of Lantau Island’s south coast.
Its open grassy hillside covered with Chinese silver grass is also a popular photo spot you shouldn’t miss.
If you’re fast enough, you can accomplish this hike in around three hours of walking time. However, it can take around four hours or more if you plan to stop at viewpoints and take lots of pictures at the peak.

Location: Slopes below Sunset Peak
Lantau Mountain Camp features rustic stone cabins on the plateau below the Sunset Peak’s summit.
What’s interesting about these stone houses is that they’re believed to be around more than 90 years old, but even locals can’t pinpoint the original story of how these houses were erected.
However, according to some historians, the houses were built by British missionaries as a simple camping ground. Since they really enjoyed hiking the Sunset Peak, they decided to build other infrastructures.
Nowadays, all the stone houses in Lantau Mountain Camp are closed and locked. Nonetheless, people can still take pictures or camp next to them.
