Tai Hang is nestled on the southeast corner of Causeway Bay and the mid-northern side of Hong Kong Island. Its upper area is filled with high-rise residential blocks and a public housing estate. Its lower area is lined with old residential blocks, restaurants, and other amenities. 

What is the main street in Tai Hang? 

Tai Hang Road is the best place to start your Tai Hang exploration. This road’s narrow streets and alleys feature cozy cafes, concept stores, and hole-in-the-wall restaurants. It’s the perfect spot to get a feel of Tai Hang’s vibe. 

How to get to Tai Hang? 

Closest MTR station: Take the MTR at Central and head to Tin Hau Station. Take Exit A1, walk until you reach the ground level, and cross the road. Head to King’s Road and walk until you reach Tung Lo Wan Road. Turn left, and in about five minutes or so, you’ll be in Tai Hang. 

Best Time to Go to Tai Hang

The best time to visit Tai Hang is during the Mid-Autumn Festival. During this festival, the streets come alive with the three-day Fire Dragon Dance parade. This parade showcases a 67-meter-long handcrafted dragon lined with incense sticks and is led by 300 performers.

Lin Fa Kung, or Lin Fa Temple, is built to honor the Goddess of Mercy, Kwun Yam. People visit here to pray for protection and fortune.  

Compared to other traditional temples, Lin Fa has a semi-octagonal facade and two entrance staircases, making its structure unique. Inside, you’ll find intricate murals of flying dragons and phoenixes soaring across its roof, windows, and walls.

The Shophouse is a hip art space built from a restored Grade III-listed pre-war Tong Lau (tenement building). This five-story exhibition space isn’t like the typical art museum you see around the city.  

Aside from the grand architecture, what’s nice about The Shophouse is that you’ll never know what to expect. Its goal is to showcase both local and overseas creatives from a diverse array of disciplines and backgrounds. 

The current exhibits featured in this gallery are Judd in Uniform, Bad Physics, and other solo exhibits of featured artists. Most are quirky yet meaningful contemporary art relating to Science, logic, and civilization.

Haw Par Mansion is as fancy as it sounds because it once housed a theme park! This huge estate was owned by a well-known philanthropist and entrepreneur, Aw Boon Haw. 

The main mansion and its vast gardens were once popularly known as the Tiger Balm Gardens, and they featured Hong Kong’s first-ever amusement park. 

Now, most of the property has been redeveloped. However, the mansion remains, and some parts of it have become a designated site for a private music school named Haw Par Music. The good news is that you can also sign up for free guided tours at the Grade I historic mansion.

Bing Kee Cha Dong is where the working-class residents of Tai Hang chow down. It’s a small dai pa dong (open-air food stall) serving classic local snacks and street foods at affordable prices.    

They are famed for their savory Deep-fried Pork Chop Noodles, so it’s the best dish to try here. But if you’re not that hungry, you can also just try their Condensed Milk Toast.

Nocino is a grotto-style eatery serving Swiss-Italian delights that is becoming increasingly popular with foodies in Tai Hang. 

This restaurant offers a la carte dishes, but we prefer their set lunch because it’s convenient and affordable. For HKD 148 or HKD 168 per person, you can already try one starter, pasta, and dessert. 

We recommend you start with Arancini Ticinese, followed by a serving of their housemade pasta, Duck Ragù Reginette. After finishing the pasta, top it all off with a slice of decadent tiramisu!

Don’t expect something fancy, though. This noodle shop is decked out like a traditional bing sutt, so the space is quite small. Nonetheless, it’s still a nice and cozy hangout spot if you’re craving Sichuan and Yunnan-inspired noodles.
