Stroll around Tuen Mun Promenade

Tuen Promenade is a nice spot to take a leisurely stroll when you’re in Tuen Mun. It’s a less crowded promenade offering a 5-mile walking trail that’s perfect if you wish to reach your 10,000-step goal for the day.
Besides that, this long waterfront walkway is also an optimal spot to chill out and capture the panoramic views of Butterfly Beach. And wait until you see the sunsets here – you’ll love it!
Pro tip: Fishing is allowed around downtown Tuen Mun Promenade. That’s why if you wish to try your hand at casting a line, just bring your gear and snag a spot near the ferry pier.
Bring the kiddos to Tuen Mun Park

Spanning more than 12.5 hectares, Tuen Mun Park is the king of green spaces in the New Territories. It’s an excellent place to visit with the whole family because it offers beautiful green spaces, recreation centers, and walking paths.
Here, you can also access the city’s first-ever inclusive playground. It features seven themed play zones and barrier-free play facilities that are great for children of all ages and abilities.
Pro tip:
The park’s Reptile Fun-inspired section features different climbing frames, slides, and spinning equipment, all specifically designed with sensory movable parts. The northern portion, on the other hand, features the Waterlily Park with facilities like trampolines, splash pads, and giant musical playthings.
Watch the sunset at Pineapple Mountain

Hiking distance: 6.3 kilometers
Elevation: 397 feet
Pineapple Mountain, also known as Por Lo Shan to locals, is like Hong Kong’s version of the famous Grand Canyon. Just like its name suggests, this mountain looks like the crackly crust of the famous pineapple bun.
This hike is considered easy because it’s a one-path trail, but the start can be pretty steep, so take it slow. Plus, the trail is pretty exposed the entire way, so we suggest you aim for a late autumn or early spring hike and skip the scorching summer sun.
Nonetheless, you can reach its top in around an hour without breaks. And the reward? Once you reach its peak, you can take in the scenic views of Tuen Mun, New Territories, and even some parts of Shenzhen, China.
Pro tips: This mountain is located within the Tsing Sham Firing Range, so make sure you check issued warnings for live military firing practice before planning the hike.
Visit Ching Chung Koon

Ching Chung Koon is nestled northwest of Tuen Mun Town Plaza. It’s a religious and cultural attraction that’s visited by many.
This large Taoist temple is a feast for the eyes because it showcases beautiful pagodas and pavilions, vibrant murals, and fancy Chinese rock gardens.
Besides that, the Bonsai Festival is held in this temple every year. That’s why, if you’re interested in seeing a variety of classical Chinese potted plants and other artistically shaped trees, the best time to come here is around April or May.
Pro tip: Ching Chung Temple is on the opposite side of Ching Chung Light Rail Station, so if you’re coming from Tuen Mun Station or other stations in the Tuen Mun Town Plaza, make sure you catch transit line 505.
Explore Butterfly Beach Park

Butterfly Beach Park is a 6.3-hectare park that’s perfect for get-togethers and family outings. Here, you can access a range of recreational spaces.
Want to grill some burgers and meat? Just go to the barbecue sites. Plan to bring the kiddos? Let them explore the play areas and sports facilities in the area.
Plus, it’s just steps away from Butterfly Beach, so you can enjoy a chill day by the water. We also like that it’s on the remote side of Tuen Mun, so it’s less jammed by tourists.
And the best part? There are camping sites here, so bring your tent, roast some marshmallows, and enjoy camping under the stars.
Pro tip: There aren’t always lifeguards on duty at Butterfly Beach. For your safety, here is the current schedule of lifeguard services on the beach.

- June to August (Monday to Friday – 9 AM to 6 PM, Saturday to Sunday – 8 AM to 7 PM)

Tuen Mun Curry House is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant on Castle Peak Road, and it’s definitely a crowd favorite. Here, you can indulge in authentic and hearty Indian munchies for a relatively cheap price.
For example, their set menu, which is good for two people, is only worth HKD 205. This lunch set already includes soup, Chicken Tikka, and your choice of two curries. It also comes with garlic fried cabbage, naan, and some tea or soft drinks.
When it comes to curry, we recommend Beef or Lamb Curry for meat lovers. But if you’re vegetarian, you can also enjoy a range of dishes like the Mix Vegetarian Curry, Vegetable Momo, and Mutter Paneer.
