Cons

IMI was established 30 years ago, and since then the clinic has been popularly known for being one of Asia’s largest clinics using natural and integrated methods.
The clinic has easily become one of our favourites, since it centres treatment methods on properly regulated methods, and with their roster of highly competent practitioners, we’re fairly confident about the services they provide.
The clinic currently has three osteopaths: Dr. Maxi Schönteich, Dr. Jonathan Vallade, and Dr. Victor Bordeau.
With their varying areas of expertise, we’re assured right from the beginning that we’re in good hands with any of these doctors.
However, we find that Dr. Maxi seems to be the most sought out osteopath among them. She focuses on musculoskeletal pain including back, neck, or jaw pain and recurring headaches.
Dr. Maxi also handles complex and chronic pain including fibromyalgia and autoimmune conditions. For these conditions, it can be quite difficult to come across competent experts that can effectively deliver treatment.
In line with that, we’re quite glad to have come across Dr. Maxi’s services. She’s very friendly and professional at the same time, making clients feel at ease.
The way she handles patients is a clear exhibition of her expertise as an osteopath. Dr. Maxi is renowned for her ability to address the underlying and even the hidden causes of complex pain conditions that might have been left untreated for years.

Pros
- Highly experienced osteopath
- Very friendly staff and clinicians
Cons
- Only one resident osteopath
Taras Makarenko is the principal osteopath of the Hong Kong Sports Clinic, where he specialises in mechanical pain associated with sports injuries, “desk-bound” related back pain, and nerve entrapment syndromes, such as sciatica pain.
He appeared to have a well-grounded background in osteopathy, so we were eager to see if Dr. Makarenko was truly as adept as we heard.
To our satisfaction, he was very pleasant to consult with. Much like other experts, he puts much emphasis on educating patients.
We liked how he valued this aspect of the treatment, since it shows his dedication to tending to each of his patient’s unique needs, whereas others would gravely lack in this area.
Dr. Makareno’s belief that educating patients about their pain is a huge factor in considering effective recovery and treatments for their particular conditions is truly impressive.
While some doctors would require multiple followup check ups that tend to be costly, Dr. Makarenko would include both in-clinic and home exercises like simple stretches and strength-focused practices as key factors to improve symptoms.
This has been another reason why his patients are so fond of him, and we agree with them. Not only does he have an impressive background, he’s also very considerate of his patients.

Pros
- Three practising osteopaths
- Good clinic location
- Accommodating staff
Cons
- A bit pricey than other clinics
Dr. Chung Sze Chan is Central Healing’s principal osteopath. She received most of her training from Melbourne, Australia, and graduated from RMIT University with degrees in Clinical Science and Osteopathy.
We were glad to have come across a female doctor that specialises pre- and post-natal care of mothers and their spine and pelvis.
Seeing Dr. Chan was definitely worth the visit. With the treatment she had for us, we saw immediate improvement, reduced pain levels, and better mobility.
The clinic also has two other equally competent and adept osteopaths, Dr. Sam Noble and Dr. Sarah Van Der Linden.
A lot of their previous clients have commended their approach in treating various injuries related to martial arts training and other high-risk sports, such as snowboarding.
We would give the clinic an 8.5/10 for conditions like chronic back pain, neck pain, sporting injuries, and headaches.
The clinic itself is also very roomy and clean, and they only take in a few clients per day so it won’t get crowded.
In case you’re planning to see these wonderful therapists, do book an appointment ahead of time so you will be catered to accordingly.

Pros
- Excellent in-clinic osteopaths
- Multifaceted approach to therapy
- Great with kids
Cons
- Not the most convenient clinic location
Dr. Audrey Lafond founded Osteo and Co out of her goal to provide the best balance between Eastern and Western therapeutic practices.
She received her master’s degree in osteopathy from CEESO France in 2008, and since then she has been practising general osteopathy, cranio-sacral osteopathy, paediatric osteopathy, and neural manipulation.
Dr. Lafond was very thorough with time with us, and we were especially fond of her good nature, and she was notably gentle with patients. Her good nature makes therapy less intimidating and more inviting.
We find that her approach is strongly backed with other treatments such as acupuncture, homoeopathy, and other holistic disciplines.
It’s impressive for us to know that she aims to combine the necessary treatments for distinctive conditions.
Apart from Audrey, Stephanie Gravouille is also one of the clinic’s practising osteopaths. Audrey has a particular affinity for paediatric osteopathy.
Most of Stephanie’s experience stems from France, and she has only been in Hong Kong for almost 2 years.
Despite that, we find her to be a skillful osteopath. Both she and Audrey can conduct sessions in French and English.
For parents looking for a clinic for their kids with certain conditions that require the care of an osteopath, Osteo & Co Holistic Center has therapists that are great with children.
