We Found the 6 Best Donut Shops in Hong Kong So You Don’t Have To
In a city pretty much run by egg tarts, dim sum, and milk tea, donuts in Hong Kong don’t often get the limelight they deserve. But trust us – they’re seriously underrated!
Having wandered through the backstreets of Sham Shui Po and the cafes of the Greater Bay Area, we have a couple of spots that might just dethrone your current faves.
If you’re craving some of the city’s most delicious desserts, here are the stops to explore.
1. Hole Foods Hong Kong

Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM | Saturday: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM

Hole Foods landed among our favorites with their delicious range of donuts. During our visit, we tried the matcha mochi donut (though we think it’s only a special flavor that month), and we already knew we were in for a treat.
If there’s an option we can recommend, we’re sure the condensed milk donut won’t let you down. The dough is pillowy and light, with a perfectly buttery texture. At $45, it feels like a splurge per piece, but the taste is really above the others.
For those who love pairing their desserts with coffee or tea, their original glazed donut is the best option as it won’t overwhelm the taste of your drink. And as for ordering, you can order online and just pick it up on-site.
2. Dough Bros. Pizza & Doughnuts

Known in the area for their delicious pizzas, Dough Bros also rule the game when it comes to donuts. While their options are fairly limited compared to other stores, they rival some of the city’s best when it comes to taste.
There are at least 2 flavors worth trying: Nutella and custard. Both options are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, which gives them a heavenly taste. The sweetness isn’t strong, and in fact, you can easily pair them with any of their pizzas!
The donuts are bouncy, and we can really say it’s high-quality because they maintained their texture even after hours of travelling. We ordered a few pieces back then to take on a trip to Macau, and it looked straight out of the oven still.
3. Pane e Latte

Address: 啟厚, 閣地舖, G/F U-C Court, 25, 25號 Stanley Market Rd, Stanley
Contact Details: +852 2337 7221
Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 8:15 PM
Price: $$
This gorgeous restaurant is situated by the seafront, so the experience of enjoying a donut is a whole experience. And despite feeling a bit more upscale than others, we find their prices reasonable, with some of the best service in the city.
We definitely recommend trying out their classic bombolini, an Italian-style donut that’s filled with light vanilla cream. The entire profile is light and easy to enjoy with a cup of Americano or any hot tea.
We also like the unique specials they do during holidays. We remember coming here during Halloween, and we ordered donuts designed with bleeding tooth marks (they’re just jam, of course!). So do take note once the holidays are close!
4. Bakehouse

Address: 14 Tai Wong St E, Wan Chai
Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Price: $$
Whenever we talk about Bakehouse, the first thing that comes to mind is their brunch options. But beyond the eggs benedicts and chicken and waffles, we find their donuts to be a solid option for sweet lovers too.
Options aren’t extensive on certain days, but we do have a go-to option every time. The chocolate hazelnut is fluffy, and the smooth, creamy filling really highlights the sweetness.
They have kumquat donuts too, with a kind of zestiness that really bursts in your mouth. Just one of these is enough to feel full!
That said, though, we recommend coming here for a full meal or brunch and simply getting the donuts as dessert (or any pastries). It’s just a nice way to try out new flavors now and then.
5. Tai O Bakery

Address: 吉慶街66號 大嶼山, Tai O
Operating Hours: Monday – Friday: 11:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Saturday – Sunday: 11:30 AM – 6:00 PM
Price: $
Tai O wouldn’t be Tai O without its famous deep-fried donuts. It’s simple – fluffy donuts that are sprinkled with sugar to give them the right amount of sweetness. It’s perfect to pair with a nice, hot chocolate.
There may be a bit of a queue during your visit, so we recommend arriving early. That’s because the donuts are best enjoyed when they’re made fresh right on the spot.
Even better if you have it during the cold months, the warmth and sugary profile of the donuts really shines through against the cold.
Donuts are cheap at $15 each, so you can buy a couple of pieces to have for later. The place also has other pastries you can try (and yes, we recommend you do), including egg tarts, coconut tarts, and their famous mochis.
6. The Baker & The Bottleman

Address: Shop No. G14 and G15 (Minor Portion), G/F. and Shop No. F15A, 1/F Lee Tung Avenue, 200 Queen’s Rd E, Wan Chai
Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:00 AM -11:00 PM
Price: $$
This stop has to be one of our favorites when it comes to donut texture alone. While the inside is fluffy and soft, the outer texture is slightly crispy, with the profile of a slightly greasy bread – in a good way.
The strawberry one is our favorite option, with its nice fruity taste that’s just slightly sour to taste. The creamy filling really bursts in the mouth, but it won’t overpower your senses if you have a cup of tea with you.
The place itself has a nice upscale feel to it, though it’s very comfortable for an afternoon snack. You can enjoy pastries on the second floor and spend some time doing some light work – do get their chocolate cake too, it’s really good!
