Where to Buy Fabric in Hong Kong for Every Style and Budget

Walk through Sham Shui Po on a Saturday afternoon and you’ll see fabric everywhere. It’s a dream for makers, with rolls of silk, cotton, and lace spilling from every stall.

Exciting? Absolutely. Overwhelming? Definitely. With so many options, it’s easy to wander for hours and still feel unsure where to start.

So I rolled up my sleeves and explored it all myself. After visiting several shops, comparing selections and prices, I’ve gathered a list of the best spots for fabrics to match any style or budget.

How much do fabrics in Hong Kong cost?

Fabrics in Hong Kong cost anywhere from HK$20 to HK$200 per yard, depending on the material and quality. Basic cotton and polyester are on the lower end, while silk, linen, and specialty fabrics can reach HK$500+ per yard.

When I visited Tissura, I was immediately struck by the quality and variety of their fabrics. They carry some of the most luxurious European brands, like Liberty, Albini, and Jakob Schlaepfer.

Walking through their selection, I noticed delicate laces, printed silks, and even fabrics with Swarovski crystals or sequins.

One of the customers I spoke to mentioned that the fabrics feel just as high-end as they look. She added that working with them really makes you appreciate the difference between ordinary textiles and something truly special.

I also appreciated that there’s no minimum purchase, which makes it easy whether you’re grabbing a small swatch or a larger quantity for a project.

They offer international shipping too, so even people outside Hong Kong can get a piece of their collection.

With over 20 years in haute couture, the staff clearly knows fabrics inside out.

The only downside is that it’s very niche, so casual and everyday fabrics aren’t really part of the mix.

Pros

  • Exclusive European couture fabrics
  • Diverse fabric range
  • No minimum purchase requirement
  • International delivery
  • Expertise in Haute couture
  • 20 years in the industry

Cons

  • Niche market focus

Friendly service, wide selection

“Really helpful and friendly lady spent time showing me different fabrics and recommended a few tailors to me. They have a really good assortment of very high quality fabrics, Chanel boucle, all kind of lace etc etc the materials that are used by the high end labels.”

Excellent quality fabrics

“Premium quality!!

Outstanding choice!!”

Business hours:

Fu Lee Silk & Piece has been part of Hong Kong’s fabric scene since 1986, and it shows. Their Sham Shui Po store offers a wide range of fabrics, from smooth silks and glossy satins to durable cottons and blends.

I found it easy to browse without feeling lost, and the selection clearly reflects decades of careful curation. I was looking for fabrics for a traditional Chinese garment and a modern outfit, and there was plenty to explore.

What really stood out to me was the staff. They took the time to understand what I needed and suggested fabrics that fit my projects perfectly. Their advice was thoughtful and easygoing, which made the experience feel comfortable and personal.

The location is another advantage. Being right in the heart of Sham Shui Po made it simple to visit other shops nearby and compare textures and prices if you want.

I just wish there were a bit more balance in the selection, as the focus is clearly on silks and satins. If you’re after more casual or everyday fabrics, you might find fewer choices compared to their luxury options.

Pros

  • Established reputation
  • Operating since 1986
  • Diverse fabric selection
  • Central location
  • Personalized service

Cons

  • Limited range beyond silks

Huge selection, fair prices

“An Alladin’s cave of fabrics and for a serious sewer my go-to place with so much choice and range of prices. Staff are friendly and always so helpful. Check out the folders of fabric swatches to choose from more fabrics stored in warehouse upstairs.

Contrary to negative review, this business is very much open and thriving. Perhaps he visited when covid restrictions were in force or staff had covid and could not open. Who knows,  but I am still a regular visitor that’s for sure.”

High-quality, helpful in-store service

“I did buy silk here to bring it home to Germany. The quality is perfect and it was perfectly fine to discuss and check it on site as well.”

I always look forward to stopping by FO:REST for their global fabric offerings.

They source fabrics from Japan, Korea, and the US. Their collection includes Liberty Tana Lawn™, KINRAN brocade, and Nani Iro prints.

Exploring the shelves is always inspiring. The variety of textures and patterns sparks ideas for projects, both traditional and modern.

Alongside the fabrics, I also appreciate the range of sewing tools, notions, and patterns they carry. I was able to find everything I needed for both simple projects and more complex designs.

The staff were approachable and ready to offer guidance whenever I had questions, which made the experience feel relaxed.

I also liked how easy it was to browse their website. The clear categories and detailed photos make it simple to find what I need, even if I’m just exploring ideas from home.

That said, those premium imported fabrics come at a higher price than local options. If you’re mindful of your budget, it’s worth planning purchases in advance.

Pros

  • Curated international fabric selection
  • Specialized craft tools and patterns
  • User-friendly online store
  • Free local shipping
  • Active social media presence

Cons

  • Premium pricing

Exceptional customer service

“Visited this store today. I asked the two proprietors if they sold red waistband elastic and they didn’t. But they took the enormous trouble to tell me where to go — a place in Sham Shui Po — and both looked up their Google Maps to give me the name of the place and exact location where to find it. What amazing service for someone who didn’t turn out to be a customer. And I did have a look around their store and they sell beautiful printed cottons. Their designs seem a little bit inspired by Liberty of London.”

Wide selection, fast international shipping

“They have a wide selection of beautiful Nani Iro fabrics. I bought online and will definitely visit in person in future. For international orders the shipment is very fast, everything was as expected. I liked that the shipment cost included import taxes upfront.”

4. Leung Kee Silk Co.

Business hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Sunday: Closed

Visiting Leung Kee always sparks ideas. Even fabrics I didn’t plan to use catch my eye, and I find myself sketching new designs in my head.

The variety of silk, linen, ramie, and yarn-dyed fabrics makes it easy to imagine both traditional projects and more modern designs.

I enjoy taking my time exploring each bolt, noticing the textures, subtle patterns, and quality of the materials. Some fabrics even reveal delicate details only visible up close, which makes browsing feel like a little discovery each time.

Being located in Sham Shui Po makes it easy to browse, with plenty of other fabric shops nearby for comparison. Despite the competition, I often return to Leung Kee for their curated selection and the consistent quality of their fabrics.

Their focus on silk and natural fibers sets them apart. The fabrics feel durable and well-made, and their emphasis on traditional textiles makes them a reliable choice.

It’s worth noting, however, that the shop leans heavily toward traditional fabrics. If you’re looking for more unconventional or contemporary materials, the options can feel a bit limited.

Pros

  • Specializes in silk and natural fibers
  • Operating since 1982
  • Diverse fabric selection
  • Accessible location
  • Attentive customer service

Cons

  • Focuses more on traditional fabrics

Honest service, great prices

“Very honest people, and excellent prices.”

Wide variety of silk

“There is many different kind of silk”

Many people recommended KT Fabric, and I can see why.

There’s a lot to explore here, with fabrics ranging from soft cotton and crisp linen to sturdy denim and practical waterproof materials. It’s a great spot to visit if you’re trying out different sewing ideas.

I also noticed they carry fabrics from well-known international brands like Echino, Kobayashi, and Quilt Gate. This adds a level of quality you can rely on for your projects.

The creative patterns really stand out. Designs featuring poodles, durians, and neon signs often catch my eye and inspire projects I wouldn’t normally consider.

On top of that, the store offers a full range of sewing tools and accessories, so you can gather everything you need in one visit.

Shopping is flexible too. You can browse the physical store to feel the fabrics firsthand or use the online shop if you’re short on time.

One drawback is that some of their popular fabrics sell out quickly. I’ve experienced a few times where a pattern I wanted was gone, which can be frustrating if you’re trying to complete a project with a specific design.

Pros

  • Offers wide range of fabrics
  • International brands
  • Features unique and playful fabric designs
  • Comprehensive sewing supplies
  • Multiple shopping channels

Cons

  • Potential stock limitations

Clean, well-organized shop

“Comfortable and clean environment in the store. Cloth, tools, accessories are neatly placed.

Learning skirts from the shopkeeper, from cloth to finished products, the owner is patient and detailed, but also polite.

I want to sign up again if I have a chance 嘢😁”

Friendly staff, quality fabrics

“The female shopkeeper and others are nice people, polite, good service attitude, good environment, good fabric material, many styles, besides the fabric, there are other products to buy, can be bought online and in stores, convenient, fair price, never questioned the origin of the fabric, absolutely honest conscience shop… Will definitely continue to help and recommend more than others, y’all work hard.. 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍👍💪💪”
