The 10 Tried-and-True Places for the Best Fried Rice in Hong Kong
Listen, people might let you down, but a plate of good fried rice never will. It’s simple, comforting, and somehow goes with just about everything.
And here in Hong Kong, finding a great one isn’t exactly hard. You’re spoiled with choices, from simple roadside eateries to fancy spots that give you views of the harbour.
As a self-confessed fried rice fanatic, I’ve tried plenty of spots throughout the years. Some serve classic with just veggies and eggs, while others sneak in premium ingredients like crab and wagyu.
If you’re on the hunt for the best fried rice in Hong Kong, here are the spots that I keep coming back to.
1. Yardbird

Address: Winsome House, 154-158 Wing Lok Street G/F, Shops A and B, Sheung Wan
Contact Details: +852 2547 9273
Price: $$
When it comes to fried rice in Hong Kong, Yardbird has yet to fail me. One of my favourites here is their duck fried rice. Although the portion is relatively small, the taste of duck fat really takes things to the next level.
If you’re not into it, you may want to check out their chicken skin rice too. This one lacks a bit of the signature soy sauce taste, but it pairs perfectly with any dish just as well. Everything comes in half-serving sizes, so you can try a lot of things.
I love their Korean fried cauliflower too. Simply squeeze some lime, and it’s a refreshing bite with a nice kick to it. The potato gyoza was a surprise as well, with a nice balance of sweetness and saltiness to finish off any meal.
Pro Tip: There are two ways to secure a table here: first, by booking a reservation; and second, by arriving early! The queue is a bit disorganised, though, so making a reservation may be the better route if you’re coming as a group.
2. Ho Lee Fook

Address: 蘇豪, 3-5號 Elgin St, Central
Contact Details: +852 2810 0860
Price: $$
Ho Lee Fook serves fried rice worth lining up for. They keep it simple with a good mix of veggies and meat, served in portions that are just enough for one person. The fried egg is mixed well into the rice too.
What I love about this rice is that the taste isn’t too strong. This makes a great match for any of their main dishes. Sometimes I’d just have the rice and then brussels sprouts on the side. On some occasions, I’ll get a small dim sum platter with it.
For something extra, try it with their barramundi. The fish is juicy and coats the fried rice with flavour. But if you want something heavier, the black angus beef tenderloin may serve you better.
Pro Tip: Hate lines? Call the restaurant to make a reservation. The place gets busy during lunch times and early evenings.
3. Lung King Heen

Address: 4F, Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, 8 Finance St, Central

Price: $$$
For Hong Kong fried rice that you can enjoy with a wide range of dishes, you need to visit Lung King Heen. It’s more of a premium spot, so be ready to splurge here, especially if you want to taste the best of everything.
My favourite pair with fried rice is their steamed chicken. The meat is tender enough and matches well with the taste of soy sauce from the rice. The roasted suckling pig is a must too!
Beyond the fried rice, it’s really the view of Victoria Harbour that completes the experience. Plus, the attentive service makes it ideal for intimate dinners or special occasions.
Pro Tip: Staff at Lung King Heen are fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Communication is smooth, so don’t be shy about making food requests or accommodations when you need them.
4. Chachawan

Chachawan is one of the best places to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine and crab fried rice in Hong Kong. Their fried rice is a nice combination of crab meat, egg, and spring onions, with sauce on the side to elevate the taste.
For your rice, you may keep it simple with either chicken thigh or grilled sea bass. The rice is properly salted with a subtle kick of soy sauce, so it’s best to go light on your proteins.
If you think you can handle more meals, I recommend ordering their gai yung (although you may feel full immediately if you’re having rice). This includes 2 large chicken pieces, with a notable hint of garlic, pepper, and coriander.
Pro Tip: There are no set lunches here, only à la carte meals. You can visit with your friends and order various dishes to share. The portions are just right to split some dishes and get a taste of everything.
5. Samsen (Wan Chai)

At Samsen in Wan Chai, you can’t simply overlook their wagyu fried rice. The beef alone should be enough to make you line up – tender, perfectly sliced, and well seasoned.
If you’re more into the classics, they also have crab fried rice. This one is a great option too, though I find that the crab meat pieces are too small for the serving. If you order this, you can match it with an order of wagyu noodles.
To complete your meal, you can wrap things up with an order of Thai tea. It tastes exactly like the ones you can order at local eateries in Thailand. It’s smooth and refreshing, definitely the ideal way to end a hearty meal.
Pro Tip: Manage your expectations as the place is small. While eating, you may feel the elbows of the fellow diner behind you. It can be hard to avoid, though – just enjoy the meal!
6. Din Tai Fung (Tsim Sha Tsui)

Iconic Taiwanese food spot Din Tai Fung is no stranger to locals, especially since it serves some of the best fried rice in Hong Kong. You can’t come here and simply skip their egg fried rice – it’s a staple for most meals here!
If you want to make things a bit different, you can opt for their prawn fried rice instead. Honestly, I like both. The decision really just depends on your food mood that day. Whatever you choose, a nice pork chop is a good match for a hearty meal.
What else should you get? I do like their shrimp spring rolls and veggie mushroom dumplings, especially if I want to taste the fried rice more. As palate cleansers, a side of either cucumber or jellyfish salad will do the trick.
Pro Tip: You haven’t been to Din Tai Fung without trying out their beloved xialongbao. Enjoy your fried rice and main meal first before ordering a set of this. This is best enjoyed with a company, so bring a special someone!
7. MY KITCHEN (Tibetan Halal Homemade Food Restaurant)

Address: G/F, 2H Saigon St, Yau Ma Tei
Contact Details: +852 9845 9097

I wasn’t the biggest patron of Tibetan takeout until I tried out My Kitchen. This unassuming canteen is super simple – it’s small, homey, and you’ll likely skip it if you’re just looking.
Still, their fried rice is one of the best I’ve had in Hong Kong. It’s tasty and has a great level of spiciness, ideal for those who love a bit of kick in each meal. Don’t worry if you’re not into spicy food, though – I’m sure anyone can tolerate this level!
Their fried momo buff is very tasty and filling as well. That said, I find myself ordering their vegetarian options more. The jhol momo veg is delicious – it’s a thin-skinned dumpling with an aromatic tomato base.
Pro Tip: If you’re in the area, don’t skip Mr. Hanif’s milk tea to complete your meal. It’s just nice to have while enjoying a plate of fried rice. Take note that seating is a roadside setup too. It may not be the most ideal setting, but do try sitting outside for the experience!
8. Above & Beyond

Address: 28/F, Hotel Icon, 17 Science Museum Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui
Contact Details: +852 3400 1318
Price: $$$
Whenever I want to feel a bit fancy, Above & Beyond is my go-to spot in Hong Kong. Fried rice here is always a highlight. It’s a great treat for lunch or dinner, even if it’s a bit pricey!
If you want to order this, I recommend not ordering it separately. What you can try is to order BBQ pork, as this is served along with fried rice and steamed broccoli with garlic. The garlic rice itself had a nice mix of carbs and scallops.
You can also look forward to their special set menus. This is great if you just want to have a quick meal with generous fried rice servings. The chicken and shrimp dumplings are a delicious match for this.
Pro Tip: A few of my friends noted that the fried rice was a bit fishy. If you’re not particularly keen about that, you can add more soy sauce to it. This makes the rice tastier as well.
9. Yat Tung Heen – Eaton HK

Address: 380號, 香港逸東酒店B2樓層 Level B2, Eaton HK 九龍, 380 Nathan Rd, Jordan
Contact Details: +852 2710 1093
Price: $$
Yat Tung Heen is a top-tier choice for chicken fried rice in Hong Kong. It’s honestly the best I’ve ever had – the rice has a nice firm texture with a great hint of umami in every bite.
The rice is best enjoyed with their salted fish. Nothing is overpowered with this pairing, as the flavours are perfectly balanced. But if you want a little more saltiness from the rice, feel free to drench your order with their special light soy sauce.
Apart from these, I also love their dim sum, including their steamed char siu buns and xialongbao soup dumplings. The deep-fried custard buns were absolutely divine too. They have a nice crispy outer layer and well-packed custard.
Pro Tip: Honestly, just skip the chicken feet – it’s a bit too chewy to be enjoyed. Get some bean curd sheet rolls instead. It’s vegetarian-friendly, crispy, and you’ll fall in love with the addictive taste.
10. Islamic Centre Canteen

Address: Wan Chai, Oi Kwan Road, 40號伊斯蘭中心5樓
Contact Details: +852 2834 8211
Price: $
For straightforward fried rice in Hong Kong that doesn’t need to try hard to sell, see the Islamic Centre Canteen. Their fried rice is generous, plus it’s not too oily to the point that each bite is greasy. The eggs and spring onions taste well-seasoned too.
Specialising in halal Chinese food, the fried rice here is best enjoyed with their succulent and crispy chicken. The prices are affordable as well, so it’s a nice place to drop by for a quick meal.
There are many notable dishes too, including pan-fried chicken buns and dim sum plates. You can’t go wrong with anything – just take whatever your heart desires!
Pro Tip: The place is usually packed after the Dhuhr prayer on Friday. Plan your trip accordingly, so you can avoid long queues.
