Trying Out the 12 Best Bubble Tea Stores in Hong Kong – Here’s My Ranking

My love for bubble tea began in a tiny, hole-in-the-wall shop back in Tsim Sha Tsui. As a student then, my measly allowance kept me from fully indulging in Hong Kong’s best bubble tea offerings. So, I stuck to that small shop for years.

Now, with the advantage of adult money, I’ve taken on the delicious task of exploring every bubble tea store across Hong Kong. From the neon-lit alleys of Mong Kok to the chic streets of Central, I’ve sipped my way through the city’s vibrant bubble tea scene.

After countless sugar highs, I present to you my findings: the best bubble tea stores in the city – ranked and reviewed by a true fan.

Heytea

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11:00 AM –  10:00 PM

When visiting Hong Kong, you wouldn’t want to miss out on HEYTEA’s signature cheese tea. Despite its unusual name, cheese tea has become increasingly popular in the city, thanks to the rich foam that pairs well with its cheesy flavour.

If cheese isn’t your thing, HEYTEA also has other noteworthy options. Their popular Brown Sugar milk tea – premium red blossom black tea, creamy milk, and signature brown sugar boba – is about $46.

The best part about this spot is that it uses natural ingredients with no added artificial creamers or sweeteners. It’s perfect if you’re like me and are cutting down on sugar!

The Alley

Price: $$

For a high-quality milk tea with fresh and carefully selected ingredients, The Alley is best. They hand-pick and process their own cane sugar and tea leaves, ensuring a pure and original flavour that’s not overly sweet.

What really sets it apart are its signature Deerioca tapioca pearls. These chewy bits keep customers coming back for more, with their soft texture and taste that bursts in your mouth as you chew.

For those with a sweet tooth, I recommend the Brown Sugar Deerioca Crème Brûlée ($36). It’s creamy, and the smell of brown sugar is prominent, perfect for the vanilla richness of the crème brûlée.

Gong cha holds a special place in Hong Kongers’ hearts as the OG bubble tea spot in town. And with over 600 tea combinations, you can basically have a field day just mixing and matching various topping options.

Try its signature sweet and salty milk foam, chewy pearls, and aloe. You can also request to add more pearls to your cup if you’d like.

As for options, you can’t go wrong with their creamy Black milk tea, which has a slightly sweet finish. The Taro milk tea is also a crowd favourite, with its mildly earthy sweetness that complements the creamy milk tea base.

If you’re looking for a bubble tea shop that offers quality at a cheap price, then KamCha is perfect. Each of their popular milk teas only costs $18 (for reference, the average HK boba is about $36). The more you buy, the more discounts you can get.

They use their own premium tea blend with their KamCha evaporated milk for a Hong Kong-style milk tea. The combination makes a strong and smooth blend that maintains a rich tea aroma and creamy milk taste even with less added sugar.

POT•ION HOUSE brings a refreshing twist to the bubble tea scene with its Taiwanese options.

While it offers classics like brown sugar boba milk and cream cheese-topped teas, its standout specialty is the “cha dong”. It features jellied milk, tea, and coffee.

I highly recommend checking out the Vintage black tea with Soybean Milk Jelly. It’s a playful take on milk tea with creamy milk jelly that adds a unique texture to your drink.

Its signature Silky Premier milk tea is also fantastic. It’s crafted from black tea leaves for a luxurious taste. Paired with homemade peach-infused black tea jelly, it offers a balanced taste to tone down much of the sweetness.

Silk

Silk combines Hong Kong-style silk stocking milk tea with Taiwanese hand-shaken beverages. Their “Smooth as Silk” series features rich Sri Lankan black tea and authentic Hong Kong evaporated milk, delivering velvety smooth drinks with solid flavours.

A standout is the $36 Smooth King – a Hong Kong-style milk tea with brown sugar tapioca pearls topped with cheese foam and honeycomb. And if you come here with your pup, you’ll love their Puppiocas.

Ten Ren offers a wide range of tea-based drinks, including favourites like Oolong Tea Latte and Matcha Latte Cooler. The shop’s tea leaves are harvested by its tea sommelier in its privately-owned tea gardens in Taiwan, by the way.

Patrons come here for its 913 King’s Oolong Milk Tea. It leans towards the Taiwanese tea culture more, with that slightly roasted flavour and strong tea aroma.

MilkSha

Milksha, known as Milkshop in Taiwan, is known for its use of top-quality fresh milk. The brand stands out for using natural ingredients. It even has coloring-free, honey-soaked white pearls that elevate the appeal of its beverages.

A popular choice at Milksha is the Bubble Earl Grey milk tea ($28), which blends creamy Earl Grey tea with chewy honey pearls. It just has minor hints of bergamot and citrus, but the honey’s sweetness makes it absolutely delicious.

Another beloved option is the Fresh Taro Milk, featuring taro imported from Taiwan’s Dajia district. Earthy but naturally sweet and well-loved – you can’t go wrong with this option!

Tiger Sugar

Contact Details: +852 2614 1717

Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Price: $$

This famous bubble tea brand is known for its brown sugar boba drinks. Named after the streaks of syrup that the pearls leave down the cup’s sides, it’s a visual treat perfect for social media snaps.

I personally love its Black Sugar Boba Milk ($30), even though it has more creative options. This drink features fresh milk combined with chewy brown sugar boba pearls. The deep caramelised taste is just perfect for its creaminess.

Its mineral-rich Black Sugar is also a great option. Instead of creamer, the shop uses natural milk for a richer and more savoury taste.

Share Tea

Sharetea swiftly became a favourite spot for its delightful red bean milk tea. Although some bubble tea enthusiasts find Sharetea too herbal, it’s actually something that I love about it.

The boba at Sharetea is exactly how you’d want it – perfectly chewy with just the right amount of bounce. Each bite has the perfect texture. Not too chewy, breaks easily, and doesn’t overwhelm your taste buds.

Aside from its regular offering, the store also has seasonal teas. You can also mix and match your own tea if you want to make the boba experience more “you”.

Mother Pearl

Contact Details: +852 3596 5100

Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Price: $$

Mother Pearl offers a guilt-free twist on bubble tea. It crafts all ingredients from scratch, including plant-based “mylk”and alternative sweeteners.

The shop practices sustainability with biodegradable straws and cups, which makes it the ideal spot for eco-conscious boba lovers.

Its best-selling drink, Yuen Yeung 2.0 ($38), combines milk tea with a caffeine boost from organic coffee froth and tea jelly. I fell in love with this immediately!

If you end up really loving the shop, I suggest becoming a member here so you can earn points and use them to buy more boba. Members are also the first ones to know about new flavours on the menu and are the first to try them out.
