5 Best Grocery Stores in Hong Kong To Shop Like a Local
If you ever find yourself in Hong Kong – whether as a resident or a foreigner on a long vacation – a nice grocery store will be your lifeline. Nobody wants to shop at overpriced tourist traps!
One time, I remember paying $70 for a dozen eggs – twice the usual! I didn’t even have enough change in my pocket to get the milk tea I’d been dreaming about all day.
This inspired our adventure to discover the best grocery stores in Hong Kong. Along the way, we uncovered spots with domestic and international goods at great prices.
As an extra bonus, we even looked for premium shopping options for foreign items, so you don’t have to deal with customs. If that sounds appealing, which I’m sure it does, check out our list!

Cool supermarket with big selection
“Cool supermarket with a big selection for alcohol and drinks. Some of the drinks you can usually only find in Japan. It’s a little pricier but you can’t find it anywhere else in Hong Kong so it’s worth it. They also have a good instant noodle selection and plenty of other goods.”

Great variety of Japanese products
“One of the best Yata Supermarket on Hong Kong Island. Loads of Japanese products of great variety were available there. There were even several designated fridges for ice cream. I bought tofu and black sesame ice-cream and they were amazing. One more thing: there was a Wilson Parking where you could hop on to your vehicle right after shopping”

Adequate choices
“A bit small but with enough choices. Location is very good. And service is typical HK style; passive and a bit aggressive. Nevertheless it fulfills it’s main purpose: a supermarket with enough choices of produce and necesssitaties.”

“It’s right next door to Lan Fong Yuen! I bought a lot of milk tea here. The milk tea was cheaper than other local parks and shops.”

The only downside noted by customers was the $800 minimum for free delivery.
However, the quality of the goods they sell overshadows the negative. We found some of the best quality produce here, including gourmet products from international regions.
Best for fresh produce.
“A famous grocery chain that’s more geared toward the high end market, however I personally only come here for their fresh produce. The rest that’s on the shelves can be found if all other local supermarkets.
However when it comes to the fresh isles and deli, city super really is hard to beat. Their cheese, cold cuts selections is just off the charts. Also if you’re in a rush, they also have a bunch of ready-to-eat dishes that they weigh for you.
Again, would only recommend this place for the fresh produce!”

Great for fresh produce
“Went sightseeing around Central and found myself walking into ifc Mall. I would say the shatin branch is larger and the harbour city branch the bigger of the three.
The quality of produce is of high quality but you pay for it aswell. There is a good selection of both Western produce and Oriental products. Ignore my lack of Western produce photo’s as its common for me (UK)”

We came across Market Place by Jasons through a friend who’s been visiting the place for a long time. We were a bit skeptical at first, but when we really tried out their products, we realized it’s a great spot for quality goods.
