The 5 Best Insurance Companies in Hong Kong You Can Count On for Everything
The truth about life is that one day it’s running smoothly until it isn’t. One minute, you’re enjoying the view of Victoria Harbour. Next, you’re staring at a broken car window or experiencing a sick stomach during your vacay in Europe.
With how busy HK life is, it’s easy to forget that insurance isn’t just for the over-cautious. It’s, after all, our protection when life takes a 180. And really, the last thing we want is to have to dip into our life savings when those happen.
We rounded up the best insurance companies in Hong Kong that provide plans for all needs. We found them by speaking to clients, inquiring at the firms themselves, and doing a complete background check to assess stability.
How much does insurance cost in Hong Kong?

We liked that Cigna offers a wide range of services. They offer plans for individual medical policies, as well as global coverage options.
For commercial clients, they cater to both local SMEs and multinational workforces.
As for reliability, we’re confident in their long-standing presence in HK. They’ve been here since 1933 and are transparent with all their background details.
Comparing premiums, we can say that they offer competitive rates and high benefits. In some cases, there’s even no lifetime cap. This, of course, varies depending on your eligibility.
Customer service is another solid area. Clients get an assigned concierge support through a care manager. Through this, claims are so much easier and faster to navigate.
While they do have an online portal, our team thinks it’s a bit weak in usability. Claim-tracking feels outdated compared to others too.
It’s still helpful in a lot of cases. They’re one of the few companies that offer video explanations on insurance plans. It just helps with regular education.
2. Blue Cross (Asia-Pacific) Insurance Ltd

Location: Hong Kong, Wan Chai, Queen’s Rd E

Blue Cross offers an impressive range of insurance services. Plans include travel, health, and home insurance. Even pet insurance is available.
Their online platform is one of the best we’ve tried. It’s well-designed and user-friendly. It allows clients to easily compare plans, enroll, and receive policy documents instantly.
As for the pricing structure, everything is transparent and affordable. We do like that coverage options are flexible, with options for single-trip or annual coverage.
Beyond the rates, the exclusive membership rewards were also solid. Clients can access premium discounts and redeemable points for Asia Miles.
Our favorite advantage, though, has to be their 24-hour worldwide emergency aid. For families and frequent flyers, this feature (under the Travel Smart plan) is a great value for money.
Unfortunately, we think their claims processing could be improved. A few clients said the process was slow and difficult for medical and health plans.
The quality of customer service can also do some work. Thankfully, the general experience is good – only a few hiccups come up here and there.
3. MSIG Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited

Location: 9F, 1111 King’s Road, Taikoo Shing, Quarry Bay

MSIG offers a comprehensive range of products, including travel, home, medical, and business insurance.
Among these offerings, we find their travel insurance plans to be among the most reliable. Claim approvals in these cases are fast. They even offer full reimbursements for cancellations or disruptions due to weather events.
Their customer service department is fast and efficient. In fact, many clients pointed out successful settlements within a week, all by giving them a quick call.
However, we can’t say the same for complex claims. For medical plans, there’s a tendency for the wait times to be longer.
Follow-ups can also be delayed at times, for reasons undisclosed to us.
On the positive side, the value for money is good. Premiums are competitive and value-driven. A few of the clients even said that they offer the most affordable travel plans they have.
Plus, the online reporting system is easy to use and explore. Through this, clients can easily submit and track claims conveniently.
4. AXA China Region Insurance Company Limited

Location: 20/F, Vertical Square, 28 Heung Yip Rd, Wong Chuk Hang
Contact: +85 2280 22812

AXA offers a diverse range of products, including life, health, property, and casualty plans. They also offer specialist services for women’s health and climate-risk protection.
The reputation of the company itself is strong, both locally and globally. AXA is considered the top global insurance brand, valued at over $10 billion.
That alone speaks to their stability.
We like their digital platform and self-service tools. Their mobile app, Emma by AXA, offers digital claims processing, as well as payment and consultation features.
The downside is that claim-handling processes can be inconsistent.
And since it’s a high-scale brand, you won’t usually get the boutique client experience. This makes reaching out to customer service a bit difficult.
Premiums aren’t normally the cheapest here, but there are other perks that help clients save money. Promotional offers are frequent, and pricing incentives may allow for discounts up to 80% for the first year.
This isn’t the default, though, and it still depends on various conditions.
5. Tugu Insurance Company Limited

Location: 28/F, China Online Centre, 28/F United Asia Finance Centre, 333 Lockhart Rd, Wan Chai
Contact: +852 2824 2939
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Tugu has a long-standing experience and local presence. They provide a broad range of insurance products, including specialised options like marine cargo and hull plans.
While they also offer home and employer’s insurance, they’re still a relatively small player in HK’s crowded non-life market. Riders and add-ons may be limited depending on plans.
We love the quality of their work and process. Their underwriting process is selective and risk-commensurate. This tells us that they focus on strong risk management.
The company is backed by reinsurance treaties, both proportional and non-proportional. This means that they have the capacity to meet large claims and commitments.
With these advantages, commercial and industrial clients may find them a reliable choice. Tugu generally accommodates businesses in manufacturing, cargo transit, and processing.
Overall stability is solid, with a financial strength of B+ from AM Best.
The premium base is limited, so it’s less competitive and flexible compared to bigger insurers. Clients have told us, however, that they find the protection truly valuable.
