Interactive French works with a team of professional native French instructors. Quality of teaching is assured as they’re all university-qualified and specialized in French.

Their track record is remarkable over 15 years of experience. They have a 100% DELF pass rate and have excellent IB and IGCSE outcomes.

We also love that they prioritize personalized and flexible learning. Lesson plans are customized to each student’s pace, proficiency level, goals, and learning styles.

There’s a wide range of well-structured programs, too, designed for kids, teens, and adults. For group classes, we like that they keep it small with 5 to 6 students each.

Both private and group lessons are competitively priced for the Hong Kong market.

What makes them more worth the investment is the level of engagement students get. Lessons are always described as fun, enjoyable, and highly interactive.

As their name suggests, they’re focused primarily on the French language. Those who want to explore multiple language options may be better off elsewhere.

The Wan Chai location may also be a bit far for those living in New Territories or outlying islands.

HKLS offers both group and private Cantonese/Mandarin classes.

What’s great is that lessons are personalized to each student. Teachers adapt content, speed, and difficulty based on individual learning styles.

The most fun part for us is that lessons incorporate cultural contexts. This allows students to also learn about HK norms, traditions, and everyday social behaviors.

The teaching style is a bit informal. It may be an issue for those who prefer a standardized curriculum, but it’s also advantageous for those who prefer conversational learning.

Scheduling is flexible, able to accommodate busy individuals. Plus, class sizes are small to ensure individualized attention.

Beyond the lessons, we also appreciate the admin support. For instance, students get WhatsApp reminders about upcoming sessions.

Students also receive their own textbooks and audio materials.

However, we did hear complaints from students that the textbook content was outdated.

A few students also felt that they were pressured into paying course fees in advance.

In general, fees here fall on the more affordable side,

Pros

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Offers group and private classes
  • Provides cultural insights
  • Affordable tuition
  • Good administrative support
  • Practical, conversation-focused lessons
  • Small class sizes
  • Provides textbooks and audio material

Cons

  • No standardized curriculum
  • Textbook content may be outdated
  • Minor issues about paying course fees in advance

Highly recommended

“I’m very happy to find HK Language School.  I study Cantonese one to one and feel my teacher, Vectra, is top notch. I am making good progress.  Branda and Mini are also very helpful in communicating and working around my busy schedule.  Great service provided by all.  I would highly recommend!  Also, they have good coffee😆! …”

Flexible teaching style

“Have been coming here regularly for a private 1-1 session every week since November 2020 and am very pleased. Teachers are excellent and am happy with my progress in Cantonese. They’re flexible to my learning style which is learning Cantonese in a hybrid style from English & Mandarin. Textbooks are quite old-fashioned but am happy with the flexibility offered by the teachers.”

We like how well-designed Mandarin Time School’s curriculum is. It’s packed with practical vocabulary, real-life scenarios, and structured grammar progressions.

Reliability is a major factor. The school employs one of HK’s largest teams of native Mandarin teachers. All of them specialize in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL).

Instructors personalize the lessons extensively. This includes adjusting the pacing and changing vocabulary themes based on each student’s learning style.

We also love that they emphasize cultural immersion. Topics normally cover Chinese poetry, food culture, modern media, and conversational etiquette.

The robust suite of online resources is also helpful. Students can access video recordings of classes, detailed class notes, and even daily quizzes.

Convenience is also a win as it’s located in Central, so professionals in the area can easily drop by.

Certain instructors are more in demand than others, and for good reason. However, it can be difficult to book them, especially during the term break.

Some students may also prefer standardized textbooks to their internally designed materials.

Pros

  • Large team of TCFL-qualified teachers
  • Structured curriculum
  • Personalized teaching approach
  • Strong set of online resources
  • Wide variety of programs
  • Small class sizes
  • Convenient Central location
  • Competitive pricing

Cons

  • In-demand teachers can be hard to book
  • Non-standardized textbooks

Goes above and beyond

“Thank you Mandarin Times, in particular my teacher Fan! I have been learning Mandarin here for the past 3 years and highly recommend the private classes. The content and pace was tailored to my personal/ professional goals. Fan went above and beyond, sharing diverse learning resources (including creating flashcards), offering flexible class times and thinking of different ways to explain/answer my questions.”

Q Language offers a wide selection of courses covering English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Korean. Lessons are offered in both group and one-on-one formats.

We love how flexible the scheduling options were. There are intensive and semi-intensive options, as well as business, weekend, and corporate training products.

Students can easily customize their study hours and subjects, too.

Classes are small and are often described by students as interactive and personalized. Everything is also enjoyable, as games, discussions, and cultural elements are incorporated.

Students say they feel highly supported, thanks to their administrative team. For instance, last-minute schedule changes are communicated promptly.

We also find Q Language to be a strong choice for international students. They assist with student visa services and also aid with student accommodation.

Pricing is just a bit higher than most, though not at an exorbitant rate.

It’s important to note, however, that preferred timeslots may fill up quickly. Planning your week of lessons is advised.

Pros

  • Wide variety of courses
  • Highly flexible scheduling
  • Strong international community
  • Small class sizes
  • Fast and reliable admin support
  • Convenient  Central location
  • Notable student progress
  • Offers student visa assistance
  • Offers housing assistance for international students

Cons

  • Relatively higher pricing
  • Preferred time slots fill up quickly

Unfortunately, I have to go back to Italy now, but I hope to come back in the future. I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to improve their English in a friendly and high-quality environment. Thank you all!”

Track record is a major win at Mandarin Channel School. In fact, they’ve helped many students achieve rapid conversational progress, with some completing HSK 1 within a month.

The school specializes in tailored Mandarin and Chinese programs. Lessons are adapted for professionals, beginners, and heritage speakers.

We also appreciate how each method is customized based on each student’s goal.

The content used in lessons is also immersive. Programs incorporate daily life Mandarin, current news, slang, music, and cultural themes.

Teachers are native-speaking with strong English proficiency. According to students, their efficiency makes complex grammar and tones easier to grasp.

The school’s flexible scheduling system is also solid. For private lessons, students can even reschedule easily for unexpected situations.

We love their fair pricing, considering they’re relatively more affordable than other Central-based language centres.

Popular teachers are definitely difficult to book, so advanced planning is recommended.

Some students also said that lessons feel too fast at times, especially for beginners.

Pros

  • Strong track record of rapid improvement
  • Native-speaking teachers
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Strong kids’ programs
  • Fair pricing
  • Excellent customer service
  • Central location near the MTR
  • Proven success in Mandarin and Cantonese

Cons

  • Pace may feel rapid for some
  • Popular teachers book fast
