Fitness Buffs Weigh in on the 5 Best Muay Thai Gyms in Hong Kong

Ever watched a Muay Thai fight and thought, “I could totally do that”? Well, before you start practicing those roundhouse kicks, remember that Muay Thai takes serious dedication and training. You won’t be able to perfect those kicks with just sheer confidence!

Luckily for you, Hong Kong has some top-notch gyms that can unleash your inner fighter (or just give you a killer workout that doesn’t involve dodging your cat at home).

We reached out to fitness enthusiasts who have first-hand knowledge of Muay Thai training and asked for insights into which gyms have the best equipment and packages. Here’s who made it to the list!

How much do Muay Thai lessons cost in Hong Kong?

Muay Thai lessons cost $250 to $600 for a one-time training and can go up to $18,000 for 30 sessions. Prices vary depending on the number of sessions and type of training.

1. Sitpinyo Muay Thai and Fitness

sitpinyo-muay-thai-and-fitness

Location: 1/F, 154 Des Voeux Rd Central, Central, Hong Kong

Contact: +852 9850 9825

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM | Saturday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Sunday: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Website

Smaller areas make it much easier to move between places, which is what we love about Sitpinyo. Although small, their facility is equipped with everything you’ll need for Muay Thai – from a matted floor for grips to punching bags and boxing wall pads.

Here, you can get a personalized training fit that meets your desired outcome, such as losing weight through training (which is what they’re most in demand for). We find their training to be quite challenging, although the trainers are extremely helpful.

We also like that they have grouped training that accommodates up to 8 people. These trainings are much cheaper but offer less control and management into what you wish to enhance.

Another great thing about them is they offer $100 off on your first trial. Certain time schedules are also much cheaper, at only $220 for the lunchtime session and $240 for the evening and weekend sessions.

However, we do find them pricier compared to other gyms, especially for single sessions that cost $740. That said, they offer much more comprehensive training than others, which justifies the price.

Pros

  • Comprehensive training for personalized goals
  • Discounts for trial training
  • Fully equipped facility
  • Reduced rates for certain schedules
  • Small size for grouped training

Cons

  • Closed on weekPricey single sessionsends

Amazing coaches

“I traveled to Hong Kong for work and was able to get two days Muay Thai training in. Enjoyed my training at Sitpinyo with Rung. The owner Gary is very nice. Small gym but clean, and has good coaching. I will come back next time I am in town.”

Friendly and patient coaches

“Amazing gym with friendly and patient coaches. Started training here about a year ago and I still remember coach gat asked me if it was my first time training Muay Thai when I was there for my first trial group lesson. He paid extra attention to me since I was kinda new to Muay Thai and he made sure I could throw the kicks properly and not get hurt. This gym is great for beginners and now I got few friends joining me as well !”

2.  Spade Boxing Gym

Location: Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui, Austin Rd, 130號, Capri Building, 8/F

Contact: +852 6644 9400

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 3:00  PM – 10:00  PM | Saturday: 3:00  PM – 7:00  PM

Website

We found Spade Boxing interesting because of their women-specific training. With this, they offer specialized training so female students don’t need to worry about matching their male counterparts. Training is the same, except with added safety gear for the students.

Their private training option is a great choice for those who want to train alone or with a friend. Naturally, the training approach is personalized as long as you relay your goals to your coach.

If you don’t mind training with other people, their regular classes are a much cheaper option. While the targets in these classes are less specific, they still provide a comprehensive coverage of Muay Thai, from the beginning to the advanced level.

The only downside is their limited slots, which make booking a bit difficult. Either you book months in advance or personally drop by to request a reservation.

Pros

  • Women-only training
  • Solo and group training available
  • Fit for all ages and skill levels

Cons

  • May be difficult to book

Friendly and professional staff

“Staff are friendly and professional. The place maybe on the smaller side but it is always clean and tidy. Awesome workout and learning experience. Good for those who want to improve their boxing skills or just looking to get healthier”

Website

Kru Muay Thai offers both grouped and personalized training, but what sets them apart is their competitive prices. They even offer a 50% discount on the first lesson of your training, which is a great treat for those who just want to try it out.

Their personalized training packages are priced at $800 for 1 lesson, $750 for 8 lessons, and $680 for 15 lessons. For reference, these are usually the rates of other gyms for group training that don’t offer a specialization.

Their lower prices truly show in their grouped training. The first lesson only costs $150, while 12 sessions for 30 days cost $1,800. Daily rates also decrease depending on how many sessions you take.

However, occasional problems do occur when it comes to communication as their landlines don’t work very well. However, you can still email them for general inquiries and training updates.

Pros

  • Cheaper prices
  • 50% off on the first lesson
  • No expiration on their packages

Cons

  • Can be difficult to contact via landline

If you want a Muay Thai gym with flexible availability, especially on weekends, POY Muay Thai and Fitness is a great choice. They provide an anytime package that’s available even on Sundays.

They also offer a much cheaper package that includes unlimited access to the gym and all equipment. However, this rate is only available before 5:30 PM, so you might want to come early to save some cash.

Regarding their training, they offer 5 classes that can be finished within 2 months, starting at $1,040 for the before 5:3 PM class and $1,200 for the Anytime class. Their longest training is made up of 50 classes for 9 months, costing $7,050 to $7,660.

One potential drawback is occasional feedback about some instructors being perceived as rude, though this experience can be subjective. We do recommend getting to know the coaches first, so their teaching style matches your preferences.

Pros

  • Flexible timetable
  • Cheap
  • Open during Sunday
  • Has an Anytime package
  • Unlimited access to the gym (certain package)
  • Long-term packages available

Cons

Their bulk packages include options for 1,3 and a 6-month validity, with 4 to 72 Muay Thai classes. Prices for this training may vary, but they typically range from $120 to $200 for 4 to 12 classes.
